CHAD MOORE
Name: Chad Moore
Age: 34
Birthplace: Tampa, USA
Home: New York, USA
Discipline: Photography
What is your background?
I feel that everything you do or experience informs the art in at least some way or another. I grew up riding BMX bikes and think that shaped a lot of my ideals, as well as my moral compass. It also allowed me to travel extensively, first within the United States and then all around the world. In America, when you are in the early stages of education, you are not taught that you can travel places, only that they exist. No teacher ever told the class that you could fly to France or Germany for $500. Traveling really shapes my work, but so does New York City where I have lived for almost 13 years. It’s my home and favorite place in the world. The people, streets, bars, clubs, and energy are necessary for me.
What are the main topics you deal with in your work?
I suppose the work is a reflection of my natural world, as well as my ideal world. It offers a study of relationships and adventures. I feel like my photography touches on all human emotions, and that is the main goal. I want people to see themselves in at least one of the images when they walk into an exhibition.
How do you define your artistic search and practice in three words?
Love, Adventure, and the Unknown.
Which techniques do you use to create?
It really depends on what I’m setting out to do, but I use a lot of 35mm film in various point and shoot cameras, as well as Leica SLRs. I love the romantic aspect of it, and it feels like Christmas every time when you get back a bunch of rolls of film. Still, it is hardly efficient or cost-ective given my work"ow. Regarding the colors you see in my work, many are done with cameras or in the darkroom using different processes.
How do you view your own work, and how do you think it reflects our current times?
I would say at first glance that the work comes offas very happy -which most of it is- but I also feel that if you want to represent the joyful side of life, you also need to show the other side, so I do consider these aspects when I am working on projects.
What kind of beauty does your work focus on?
It focuses on the human connection.
What does being an artist mean in your opinion today?
Freedom.
What is the message you want to deliver with your work?
Hope, for sure!
