What’s usually the starting point of your practice, and when does your work feel complete?
My series are often initiated by emotion peaks or images that arise from reading a novel, an essay or hearing a sentence on the radio. These elements mature and later, I start making photographs. Someone said that we never really finish the work, but that we abandon it. Let’s say that I abandon my works in the eyes of viewers.

What are you obsessed with?
For me, obsession is what constitutes the fuel of creation. I consider curiosity, the wish to see and understand, as the obsessive impulse which drives me every day.

What emotions would you like the viewer to feel in front of your photographs?
I have been fighting against education and the importance of being a good student, but the wish to please obviously remains. Regarding this paradox, I try to not put too many intentions in my work and into the way the viewer is supposed to perceive it. In the end, what is important is what moves us and escapes us, what we cannot control.

What is your commitment, both artistically and personally?
When I think about what is important in both my artistic and personal life, freedom of expression often comes up. I like to think that my images and the people I photograph reflect my attachment to the essential elements that relate us to the world. I usually start to create from something quite intimate, an everyday situation, a desire for openness.

Who are some of the artists that have been the biggest influence on you?
I discovered photography as a child with the books of William Eggleston. Of course, this !rst experience remains like an epiphany, an essential reference. When I think about these images, I remember the pleasure I felt in front of the images’ composition and the unfathomable mystery of reality these books presented.

Where is the beauty for you today?
I take a lot of photographs of my own family, my partner and my children. The beauty I find in all of it inspires me a lot. I keep drawing from it the strength of our ties and the extreme fragility of our lives.
