How did your work evolve over time?
I first began making objects for common use. While making those purposeful objects, I was in admiration of the techniques and materials involved in the process. As my interest grew, these new objects that I started to create began distancing themselves from their original purpose and started to morph into something more aesthetic.
Which topics does your work focus on?
One of the main themes of my work is the Japanese tea ceremony "Sado", combined with my own philosophy.
What are you trying to convey with your work?
The easy access to information online sometimes makes us believe that we are the creators of ideas or experiences, and these thoughts accidentally blend with reality. We, as humans, are losing our innate sensitivity and creativity. I always strive to create from within and leave natural marks on my artworks to maintain this organic feeling.
What poetry is your work about?
I live in a historical ceramic town in Gifu prefecture. Here, I'm always surrounded by the works of the past dating back even thousands of years. From the artefacts, I can admire the techniques involved and imagine what the artists were thinking while creating these works. This environment inspires me every day, in order to create objects that will live on for future generations to enjoy.
